Safaricom in Kenya

I've been happy with a Safaricom cellular modem in Kenya. Coverage is excellent. Speed was about 600 Kb/s down, 200 Kb/s up. I found the plan too expensive, but it's priced similar to the other plans on this site: KES 1000 (about $12.50) for 600 MB. I used a USB modem made by Huawei.

I would definitely recommend Safaricom, and I've met a happy Kenyan user of the Orange cellular data service as well. In a country where the cybercafes have slow links and obsolete slow computers, it's wonderful to be able to bring your own laptop and get a good internet link. I already run a hosts file that prevents connections to ad sites; block image downloads as well if you want to get the most out of the 600 MB while surfing.
