February 01, 2009

Prepaid Wireless Tracker - February 2009 Issue

Hi,

Prepaid wireless is a growing and truly exciting industry.  At Prepaid Wireless Guide I try to provide you with in-depth information that isn't readily available anywhere else.  Its content is original, and created from first hand experience working in the prepaid wireless industry.

This monthly email provides you with a quick glance at what's in the news so that you can easily keep informed.  I believe in brief, to-the-point summaries/commentary so that you can move onto other tasks in your day.  Each snippet includes a link to the original story should you be interested in the full details.

If you like this e-zine, please do a friend and me a big favor and "pay it forward."  If a friend DID forward this to you and if you like what you read, please subscribe by visiting here.

There’s not doubt Prepaid is here to stay!
There were quite a few articles again this month indicating that prepaid is a great alternative for people looking to closely monitor how much they’re spending each month.  For unlike postpaid, prepaid allows you to consciously know how much you’re adding to your account (and subsequently spending) with no surprise end-of-month bills.  In addition, the news highlighted how prepaid is continuing to grow and even outpacing postpaid for some carriers (ex. T-Mobile).

Rather than post such links here again month after month, I figured that I would simply make this note and save you the time from linking over to similar articles time and time again.  For those who are new to this e-zine, well, now you’re in the know as well!  There were a few noteworthy topics that arose this past month, the most notable one being Boost Mobile’s launch of a super competitive $50/month nationwide unlimited plan (see below).

Leap Announces Net Customer Additions for Fourth Quarter (source article removed)
MarketWatch (press release) - USA
Despite the weakened economy, Leap posts some really good results.  This is solid evidence that it’s not all talk; we’re seeing some solid growth, and it should be interesting to see what happens as they expand their Cricket business in 2009.

Buzzd Seeks to Guide You, Whatever Your Phone
New York Times - United States
Buzzd, a New York-based company announced a deal with MetroPCS, to showcase their location based search service.  Customers can view listings by category, and even post comments that are shared with Buzzd members in the area.  It will be interesting to see how well this application works!

Boost launches unlimited at $50 using iDEN network (source article removed)
January 15, Allie Winter, RCR Wireless News
Sprint Nextel Corp.'s Boost Mobile subsidiary unveiled an unlimited offering dubbed "Monthly Unlimited" that includes unlimited voice, text, Web, walkie-talkie, and nationwide roaming.  Unlike other prepaid unlimited plans, reloads are free (i.e. no fees!), and there are no telecom taxes added.  This could very well be the best value in unlimited prepaid yet!  Have you already activated the plan?  Please post a review for others to hear!
