Virgin Broadband2Go Strikes Out

by DAVID
(HOUSTON, TEXAS)

I've been a happy camper for years with Virgin Mobile phone so was pleased to see that they were providing broadband service. Went out and bought a netbook. I purchased the modem online from Virgin and was unable to get it to install, even after several hours with their tech service.

They sent me a new unit and I tried again with no success. Even tried it on my office computer. It would not even recognize the modem. When I went looking for an answer on the web, I came across reviews at Amazon. If I had seen these first, I would never have gone Virgin. Summarizing the Amazon reviews: A great unit when working, but you may never get it to work.

You pay for what you get...
by: Oliver

Mobile broadband with the exception of Clear's WiMax service is limited these days and you have to accept it or move on. I have a Virgin Mobile phone and broadband plan and I got grandfathered into my old pricing plan, and yes, I still use more than 5GB every month.

If you are in a WiMax coverage area try Clear, which is selling a prepaid service too.

Virgin Mobile Broadband Sucks
by: Anonymous

Please excuse my weak skills in the spelling and typing department. When it comes to Virgin Mobile Broadband, do yourself a favor and don't get it! They are the epitome of a giant corporation. They make the rules up as they go, and then feed them to you as if you were their employee, not a valued customer. Service is very slow and expensive. Tech support is only helpful if you understand Spanglish or wehatever it is they call the dialect of English they are speaking that day. The price is way to high. I don't mind paying good money for a good product, but when a company tells me their product is top of the line but in reality they don't even know where the quality line is! I am not a mental giant by any means, but guess what? Virgin, I'm smart enough to know when a product sucks. If anyone has figured out how to stop the machine or at least slow it down let me know, because I want to pay or donate to your cause!

Broadband2G 2.5GB Limit
by: PrepaidWirelessGuy

A 2.5GB effective usage really is very poor. As I've described before, even 5GB these days is borderline unacceptable. If they want to have a cap to protect themselves from true abusers (i.e. not everyday people like us), they need to consider a 10GB limit. 2.5 is not appropriate, and they need to remove their unlimited marketing immediately. Unlimited with a 10GB cap might be legal, but not 2.5GB, and even 5GB is questionable. Any plan with a limit, no matter how high it is, should simply state the limit and not use "unlimited" as it truly is misleading. I expect this type of marketing will become illegal before too long.

another unhappy customer
by: Anonymous

I'm not happy w/ B2G. I bought in to the "unlimited" sales pitch, and find a lot of dropped coverage issues. The modem times out regularly and has to be reset. Speeds vary tremendously.

My biggest complaint is the ending of the unlimited feature. First they raise the price, then they limit usase to 2.5GB effective. I feel that I was ripped off for the price of the modem. I understand no contract means they can change the plan once the paid-for services are used, and have no problem with that. But my $80 modem is essentially worthless after only 3 months of use. I will be changing providers soon, and will no longer recommend VM to anyone.

Modem Installation
by: Oliver

This might sound stupid but have you made sure to follow instructions? Most of the problems are related to not following instructions how to install the modem.

Try to install the modem drivers from the manufacture and don't use the Virgin Connection Tool. Just establish a new dial-up connection on your PC with the number #777 and without user name and password. This should solve your problem.

I don't give much for ratings on Amazon because most people posting them are ...
