Using my iPad daily for sales calls

by Jersey soundguy
(Old Bridge, NJ USA)

With Docs To Go I have access to all my price sheets and product cut sheets, whether Excel, Word, pdf, or even PowerPoint, wirelessly sync'd with my laptop. My email, calendar, contacts, and to do list sync through my company's Exchange server. I have links to websites for all the products we sell. I can take handwritten notes, or create an audio recording of a meeting. This is the business tool I have been waiting for!

Apple iPad for Business Use
by: PrepaidWirelessGuy

Sounds like you've fit the iPad quite nicely into making your sales life more productive. Viewing documents and Web pages on a smartphone certainly wouldn't be nearly as usable, if not downright unusable!

In my opinion, I think the debate about whether an iPad is as good or better than a laptop or netbook comes down to a matter of personal preference. It's certainly not a category killer, but many people will simply find that it fits well (or better) into their daily life (whether work or personal) than other computing options available.

It would personally stress me out to not be able to load a work document onto an iPad when at a conference, in meetings, or at a vendor site. However, most of the time you can probably get around this by using email as a mechanism to transfer files.

If I'm doing any kind of data entry, I want a physical keyboard. However, I know people who would prefer to be able to jot down notes as you described. The rumored HP webOS slate is rumored to have a stylus, which would further improve your ability to take great notes on a device of this form factor.

Generally speaking, I think it's great that we have all of these options, and unlike many, I believe that notebooks and netbooks will continue to thrive. As many people as there are in the world, there are an equal number of opinions and personal preferences!

It's great to see you using and enjoying the iPad for work, and I look forward to hearing more about how people are using this new type of tool!
