I wouldn't pay much for a prepaid phone

$50 at most, as long as it has bluetooth, modem capabilities, and 3G speeds, then I can tether it to my computer. I still have my old ppc, nokia tablet, and netbook; I'll do plenty of damage.

That's all you would pay for no contract?!

I'm really surprised that you're only willing to pay $50 for a prepaid phone. The services you describe using make it seem like you're pretty much a power user. If you're going to tether and use Internet, etc., why wouldn't you be willing to pay more?

If I were going to tether, and I wouldn't have to pay anything extra for that service (i.e. it would be included in an unlimited monthly plan as part of the data service), I would be willing to pay at least $200 for a good phone. Maybe even more if it's a powerful prepaid Android smartphone, and especially if it could be used as a MiFi hotspot!

Anyway, to each their own, but I think you're undervaluing the usage/features that you would be using and how much you would be saving compared to a postpaid plan.
