I spend more time on my iPad than I do watching tv

by Randy
(Williamsburg, VA)

The iPad has made me a believer. Surfing the net can be a lot of fun, especially since it's so easy to use. The TV is now off most of the time; that's good. I'm more alert and stay up a little longer. I have had my iPad for two months and I still love it. If it were not for all the available downloads from the Apple store the iPad would have sunk. I think this is the problem facing most of the soon-to-be released "iPad killers." Apple is way ahead of the competition.

iPad Antenna Issues?
by: PrepaidWirelessGuy

Good point/question. It's also my understanding that the antenna design is the same. However, I expect that the general construction is different in terms of materials and placement. I also expect that the way you need to hold the iPad may result in it never being an issue compared to the form factor of the iPhone 4. Though, of course, I'm not an engineer, so this is only speculation. So far I haven't heard anything about iPad antenna issues.

I think that Steve Jobs is doing a poor job at the PR level to manage this issue (i.e. get a bumper case and stop bugging me...type of approach). In general, I think that if people were really concerned or upset about it that they would either not buy it or return it once they found out. I believe that sales are still on fire.

A post on CNET talked about someone's skin chemistry having to be a certain composition in order for this to be a problem, and that very few people have such skin. I also liked the comment regarding Apple disguising the iPhone 4 during testing by using cases, which is why they didn't discover the flaw prior to launch. That seems entirely plausible!

I think that so long as this is fixed in future releases, and most people don't experience major issues with this particular design, that while it may tarnish Steve Jobs' personal brand, and even somewhat that of Apple, that over time people will forget; it seems to be human nature to forget over time. He just needs to ensure that this doesn't happen again! I guess time will tell...

iPhone 4 Antenna Issue
by: Anonymous

I wonder if Steve Jobs' genius that many/most would agree has taken Apple to the level they're at today will be damaged by the antenna issue of the iPhone 4. I thought that the design (being built-in to the casing structure) was the same for the iPad? If so, I wonder if there are issue with the iPad as well?

iPad Gadget Replaces Other Activities?
by: PrepaidWirelessGuy

Thank you for sharing your thoughts! Sounds like you're basically hooked on it ;-). Is it because it's just so easy to access (i.e. instant-on)? Or is it just more fun to use than your PC? I'm not sure that I could ever replace my TV with such a gadget; at least once the honeymoon period wore off.

As many things about the iPad that bother me (in terms of feature functionality), it's truly an amazing device. Love or hate Apple, love or hate the iPad, it's a tremendous piece of technology that has certainly made a splash in the market, where other companies have failed time and again over the years. Even Apple themselves failed with the Apple Newton; Palm went on to capture the PDA market. But now we're talking a true tablet gadget!

Your comment about application availability is really a great point. That's why I foresee Google Android powered iPad-like devices becoming successful, as opposed to Windows powered devices. I think people see and use these things as a giant smartphone rather than as a computer replacement. I know some Android devices are set to come to market soon, and I expect that the hardware will provide for even more flexibility (USB, memory card reader, camera, etc.).

All-in-all, I think it's fair to say that Apple has done it again; they've changed the market forever, just as they changed the smartphone market with the launch of the iPhone (even though many other products had similar or better features years ago; it's the Apple added touches and innovations that capture people's attention and wallets!). What an amazing company! I can only wonder what Apple will become when Steve Jobs is no longer around (hopefully a long long time from now!). He really seems to be the driving force behind their innovation and go-to-market strategies. What an amazing person!
