Do you ever replace a lost phone?

When my son Brandon was walking one night he lost his phone without realizing it until he got to his house. He has been without a phone. What is the possibility of him getting a phone to replace the phone he lost or do you only get 1 in a lifetime. He lives alone and that really worries me.

Lost or Stolen Wireless Phone
by: PrepaidWirelessGuy

As soon as he realized that he lost his phone, hopefully he called his carrier to let them know. They'll suspend the account and put the phone on a "bad list" so that the thief won't be able to use it. Of course there are some loopholes here depending on which carrier, but generally speaking, this is a good idea nonetheless.

Assuming it's a prepaid phone, suspending it will also save any money you have on the account from being used. If you have a monthly plan, it will prevent all of your minutes (assuming it's not unlimited) from being used. Also, if there's a credit card attached to the account, they can also help remove that.

Some prepaid wireless carriers do have lost/stolen phone programs whereby they'll offer you a discount (or credit) if you purchase a new phone. You may need to call and talk to them to find out what their policy is. If not, he can always buy another prepaid phone for that carrier and use it on the account. Depending on the carrier, and his needs, he may be able to get a decent phone for a very reasonable price. He can even try getting a refurbished from, or buying one from eBay (just make sure that it not a stolen phone or the carrier won't allow it to be activated on their network!).

If not, and assuming there weren't a lot of funds remaining on the account, he may want to consider starting off fresh with another carrier. There are a lot of plans and phones available in the prepaid space, and he may find that there's something available now that better meets his needs.

The bottom line is that he definitely has options, and shouldn't have to be without a phone!
