Boost Sanyo Incognito is Not a Smartphone by: PrepaidWirelessGuy
Good question. It looks nice, it looks fancy, it looks flashy, has a QWERTY keyboard, and lots of features, however, it's still not a smartphone.
There are certainly a lot of discussions around what's a smartphone. I think in the case of the Sanyo Incognito, it's really the operating system that precludes it from being a smartphone. It's not an open platform like Google Android for example. And while it does have Internet and email, the applications are not open source, but rather are part of a Sanyo's operating system.
Perhaps we can say that it's a feature phone on steroids, but still not a smartphone. You can find a list of popular high end feature phones at Prepaid Mobile Email, and you can read more about my thoughts regarding what defines a smartphone at What is a Smartphone.
I think that over time the line between a high end feature phone versus a true smartphone will continue to blur. Certainly there are a lot of feature phones out there now that are much smarter than those from past years, which we now see as truly dumb phones. I guess to some extend it's in the eye of the beholder. That said, for now, I would not classify the Boost Mobile Sanyo Incognito as a smartphone.
