Apple iPad - Wireless Reading Device Game Changer!
Well, Apple Inc. did it again with the launch of the
Apple iPad in April
2010! The literal revolution that Apple created in the
smartphone industry
with its launch of the iPhone is truly unbelievable. When you
think about it, they weren't even a phone manufacturer, or in the
wireless space at all for that matter. And yet, their
thoughtful innovation, and great customer experience launched them into
number one, with one of the most sought after smartphones on the
planet; it really is unbelievable!
Enter the Apple iPad, and you've got yourself a revolution in what was
actually an immature wireless reading device category. So
what's so unique about Apple's product? During one of his
presentations, Jobs stated that the problem with Netbooks
is that they
didn't do anything really really well. In fact, they took
everything that a laptop computer has or does, and makes it worse!
Slower processors, less memory, smaller screens and
keyboards, and
generally other than being small and portable, they don't offer an
improvement to anything available at the time of their
release; they were essentially a
compromise of everything for the smaller form factor. And
everyone knows that Apple never settles for anything but extraordinary!
Jobs then went on to explain how the Apple iPad is not a portable
laptop, nor
just a Wireless
Reading Device, but rather, it offers a superb reading
and portable Internet browsing experience not available on any other
device. It does not replace a laptop computer or a netbook.
It is a device that you can keep in your kitchen, family
room, bedroom, or bathroom (ok, I added that last one!), and just grab
it when you want to read something, or pull up a Web page.
It's intuitive and simple, with an amazing display and super
long battery life. Of course,
I don't work for Apple, and I don't currently own an iPad, however, I
have had the opportunity to use them on many occassions.
Despite its limitations compared to other strong competitors
like the Samsung Galaxy series, the iPad was to the tablet industry
what the iPhone was to the smartphone industry. If you've had

Similar to the Amazon Kindle, the iPad has wireless access, coming in
WiFi and 3G/WiFi version. For those opting for the 3G version
and wishing to have Internet access (i.e. not just to download ebooks),
you'll have to pay a monthly fee (ex. $30/month) for that luxury.
Ten years ago, who would have thought that we'd be paying so
much for Internet access for all of our devices/toys: home
cable/DSL Internet, wireless phone/smartphone, broadband modem,
wireless reading device...wow! I envision a day in the
not-so-distant future where WiFi is everywhere, and it will either be
completely free, or we'll pay a monthly access fee that covers all of
our devices...but that's another topic altogether! In the
meantime, we'll need to pay a premium for our gadgets to have Internet
access, and if you're smart, you'll go the no contract route!
Carriers do offer no contract monthly plans for iPads and other tablet
devices, however, in my opinion, the option that provides customers
with the most flexibility is to buy a MiFi mobile hotspot device.
Most allow you to connect to up to five WiFi enabled devices
at the same time, which means that you don't have to buy a separate
data plan just for your iPad or other similar device. You
just have to make sure that you have a good understanding about how
much data you need so you can buy the right plan. Of course,
if it's a prepaid MiFi plan, you'll never have to worry about crazy
overages! You can learn more about this amazing option at the
MiFi
page, including prepaid MiFi plan options.
